"Violets" by Roland Leighton (read by Veronica Suarez)
Hey Everyone,
I saw the film, Testament of Youth, when it was released years ago, and I was moved by the performances from the actors and by the themes of the book. The film is based on the anti-war memoir of the same name, written by feminist, Vera Brittain. The book is a well-known account of WW1 that won many awards when it was released and continues to capture readers to this day.
With the crisis and war in Ukraine and Europe, I felt it was important to bring back this poem and memoir for modern readers and viewers of "videopoetry." I'd like to share context about this poem as I featured it in my recent article about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where I also analyze poems from Ukra...

I Vow to Thee, My Country by Cecil Spring Rice
Просмотров 8674 года назад
I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no questions, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to...

Hi everyone, This is a non-fiction poem inspired by the healthcare workers in Miami. While this is a spiritual poem, I am not trying to convince anyone of my perspective. I know that everyone sees life differently. This is my creative expression and my way of processing the world around me. I wrote this poem in May during a full moon. My purpose in sharing this poem is to create a little piece ...

#asmr #pabloneruda #lovepoems Hi Everyone, I hope you're doing well. There are some poems I've been thinking of covering regarding coronavirus (particularly Neruda's "Keeping Quiet,"). What poems do you think are appropriate for these perilous and uncertain times? For now, I hope you enjoy this bilingual cover of Neruda's "I Like For You To Be Still." It's ASMR soft-spoken, which means that I'm...

#lovepoems #naturepoetry #anxietypoems This is a very emotional poem written from the point-of-view of Victoria Cruz, the protagonist of two of my poetry collections. This is part of the book: A Romance in Letters. In this short lyric poem, Victoria had a panic attack, and turns to Peter Langley for support. Later, while walking around her favorite lake, she reflects that her feelings for Peter...

A beautifully read masterpiece! Certainly Japan arose from the ashes to attain economic heights anticipated by MacArthur. South Korea joined its ranks later on as well. But in tragic irony, the China we liberated from a decade of Japanese oppression went on to embrace the strange Western (Marx was German, after all) “mythological fiction” of Communism and freedom was stillborn in much of Asia.

Nicely done. Today is Sunday, February 26, 2023. I was watching the Biography Channel and Kipling was the subject. One of the hosts mentioned this poem, so I had to grab my book of Kipling’s Collected Verse and read along as you declaimed it. As an amateur poet, a Traditionalist, I much prefer metered and rhyming poetry as opposed to Free Verse or Open Form - which I do not consider poetry at all. It is merely Fractured Prose. I know that Dr. Victor Davis Hanson and Field Marshall Viscount A.P. Wavell would agree with me. I will look for more of your work on RUclips. And yes, I certainly did subscribe.

    I. My first thought was, he lied in every word, That hoary cripple, with malicious eye Askance to watch the working of his lie On mine, and mouth scarce able to afford Suppression of the glee that pursed and scored Its edge, at one more victim gained thereby. II. What else should he be set for, with his staff? What, save to waylay with his lies, ensnare All travellers who might find him posted there, And ask the road? I guessed what skull-like laugh Would break, what crutch 'gin write my epitaph For pastime in the dusty thoroughfare, III. If at his counsel I should turn aside Into that ominous tract which, all agree, Hides the Dark Tower. Yet acquiescingly I did turn as he pointed: neither pride Nor hope rekindling at the end descried, So much as gladness that some end might be.
